Aretha Franklin is considered as the “Queen of Soul”. The Michigan State declared that her voice is one of its natural resources. She grew up in the Midwest, singing in the choir influenced by gospel music. She later had the gospel music merged with R &B and even with pop and rock. Her debut album was “I Never Loved a Man the Way I love you” in 1967. She gained her first No.1 hit in US with her song “Respect” in 1967. She has been the only person among two others, to have her music placed as number 1 on every charted position of the Billboard top ten pop singles chart up to 2008. She went on to win 8 consecutive Grammy Awards from 1968 to 1975 fro best Rhythm and Blues vocal performances. Aretha won Honorary Grammy Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award and the Grammy Legend Award. She was the godmother of the famous singer Whitney Houston as well. She is known by her nick name “Ree” and she continued to be one of the legends that has been in the music industry.
