Steps will be taken to stop the import of chillies into the country by 2024, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.

He said this while addressing the media at the Galaboda Estate in Nawalapitiya after observing the successful cultivation of chillies using 100 acres of organic fertilizer and new technology.

“All chillies required for the country are being imported and the seeds required for chilli cultivation are being produced in the Central Province. The ministry plans to successfully cultivate 3,000 acres of chillies in various parts of the country in the future, the minister said.
