The Chinese Embassy states that a giant tunnel-boring machine (TBM) made by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corp Ltd for Sri Lanka rolled off the assembly line in Changsha, Hunan Province on Thursday (6 January).

The TBM, with a diameter of 7.6 meters, is set to be used in a water diversion project in the country. The 27-kilometer tunneling project will be the longest hard rock tunneling project in the country.

This is expected to assist irrigation and alleviate droughts and floods in Sri Lanka.
