The Court of Appeal has ruled that an indictment filed by the Attorney General against Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon in connection with a 1999 murder case is illegal and has issued a writ order nullifying it.

Petitioner Tennakoon had stated in the writ petition that the good governance government which came to power in 2015 had filed an indictment against him in the Kandy High Court in connection with a murder case that took place in the Mahawela area in 1999.

Mr. Tennakoon had filed the petition seeking that a writ order be issued to invalidate the manner in which the indictment was filed by the Attorney General.

Accordingly, Presiding Judge Nawaz of the Court of Appeal, announcing his decision stated that the case filed against the petitioner by the Kandy Magistrate’s Court was not lawful.
