The Jaffna High Court rejected four petitions seeking permission to hold a commemoration of LTTE cadres killed during the war, yesterday (20 Nov).

The petitions have been rejected stating that Jaffna High Court does not have the power to consider matters relating to national security.

It is reported that a former member of the Tamil National People’s Front had issued the writ order according to a request made by the mother of a member that Heroes’ Day should be celebrated peacefully, noting that Police would obstruct the celebration of Heroes’ Day.

Accordingly, Jaffna, Point Pedro, Kankesanthurai, Mallakam and Kilinochchi Police Stations had requested the Magistrates’ Courts in other areas including the Jaffna High Court to issue an enjoining order to stop the celebrations.
