This year’s league and defending knock-out champions Kandy Sports Club will make a strong bid to clinch the rugby double when they scrum down with Air Force (last in the league points table), in the opening quarter-final fixture of the Clifford Cup knock out tournament that kicks off on 17 February in Kandy.
Kandy SC finished unbeaten league champions on Sunday after beating Havelock SC (30-28) in the final league encounter at Nittawela.
The match was earlier scheduled to be played at Bogambara, but due to poor condition of the grounds Sri Lanka Rugby has decided to change the venue to Pallekelle.
In another quarter-final on the same day, fourth seed CH take on CR at Race Course. This will be a repeat game for both teams as they met the previous week in the last match of the league, where CH registered a hard fought win against the Longdon Place club.
On 16th league runner–up Navy SC take on seventh seed Police at Race Course and league third place finishers Havelocks will meet Army on Saturday at Air Force grounds Ratmalana.
The semi-finals will be played on 21st and the final on 25th at Longdon Place.
