MP Diana Gamage speaking in parliament on 20 Nov has proposed to earn foreign exchange by cultivating and exporting cannabis to release Sri Lanka from debt.

Originally a Samagi Jana Balawegaya Member of Parliament Diana currently supports the government.

She noted instead of finding fault with the current President, one must come up with innovative means to get rid of debt.

She asserted that her support for the Twentieth Amendment has given her the power to do so.

However, she said cannabis should be cultivated only for medical use with government intervention and that it should be done to strengthen the economy.

She made these comments while participating in the budget debate in Parliament.
