The Peliyagoda Manin Market consisting of 1192 shops and 600 parking facilities is scheduled to be declared open today (20 Nov) under the patronage of Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, as the Minister of Urban Development and Housing.
The market is said to transport goods island wide via expressways from Peliyagoda interchange.
The new Manning Mall will feature 1,192 shops, a large parking lot, restrooms for staff, medical facilities, banks, restaurants, a cooling room, restaurants and more.
Initially planned to be limited to 2 acres, the Manning Mall is now a fully-fledged mall spanning across over 13.5 acres built at a cost of 6.9 billion rupees.
Construction work on this project was expedited recently on the instructions of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The then government set up the Colombo Fish Wholesale Complex in Peliyagoda in 2011, on the instructions of then President and Secretary to the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, as one of the solutions to the heavy traffic congestion in the city.
