Sri Lanka has sought the assistance of United Arab Emirates and Iran to purchase crude oil and petroleum products on a long-term credit basis.

Accordingly, the Minister of Energy, Udaya Gammanpila has met with the Ambassador of Iran Hashem Ashjazadeh and Acting Head of the Embassy of the UAE in Sri Lanka, Saif Alanofy to discuss the matter.

The relevant discussions with the dignitaries were held to save foreign exchange so that the funds could be used for the purchase of essential food items, the Minister said.
