An additional holiday from the 13th to the 17th of July was declared for all government schools and piriven institutions in Sri Lanka, said the Ministry of Education.

In a statement, the Ministry said the decision was taken considering the negative effects the present situation might have on schools and based on the guidelines issued by the health and security forces.

The Ministry of Education said it expects all Private & International schools as well tuition classes to follow the same directive.

However, schools which will be used as polling centers for the postal vote will remain open tomorrow and the Education Ministry said it is responsibility of the respective school principal to ensure a safe environment is created for polling.
