Minister of Wildlife and Forest Conservation C.B. Ratnayake says that two committees, one from the Department of Forest Conservation and another from the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation will be appointed to estimate the cost of replanting the Kallaru Reserve in the Wilpattu Sanctuary.

Environmentalists say that between 2500 to 3000 hectares of land in the Wilpattu forest have been severely damaged.

The Forest Department states that it will study the legal situation related to the Wilpattu case and prepare an estimate on the planting of saplings in Wilpattu soon.

Director General of Wildlife Conservation W.A.C. Weragoda says that planting trees in an acre of land and taking care of them for five years will cost approximately 18750 lakhs LKR.
