An employee assistance program is a company sponsored counseling service that some companies tend to have instituted. These services are present to ensure that employees will get a chance to speak of their personal problems that interfere with their productivity. The counselors that are employed are outside experts present in a as-needed basis. The use of an EAP can be done in two ways. Firstly, the employee can request for the EAP program and then the company would assign a time and space for commencing it. Second manner is to have the supervisor taking the initiative to contact the EAP on behalf of the employee. Once the referral is made the matter is to be handled confidentially. These programs are not the most affordable to manage but are found to be effective where present.
